I got this!

Hey everyone!

I haven't posted anything from my Faded & Blurred 365 project in a while, So I thought I would remedy that. Our group is still going strong, with close to 4000 images in it. We have lost some people along the way, as the commitment to taking 1 picture a day, all though sounds simple, is still a very big commitment. Life has a habit of getting in the way, and taking some time each day to shoot, process, and upload just isn't easy.  We are on day 113, and I am happy to say I haven't missed a day. If you are interested in participating, we would love to have you!

With that said, I have also made it as easy as possible for myself to contribute to our group. Very few of my images for the group were actually taken with my Canon 5D MKII, The majority of them were taken with my iPhone, and processed and uploaded instantly with the apps I have available, or with my Canon S90, a fantastic little point and shoot that has big camera capabilities. The 3 images you see here were all taken this week with this little technological marvel. While it will always be the photographers vision, it helps to have a tool that you can rely on in tough situations. This is the first P&S that I would even consider using above ISO 400, and at it's widest end, the lens is f/2.0. It also shoots in raw, and in the manual modes, it is very easy to make setting changes. It just get's out of my way, and let's me shoot.

As a photographer, it is very important that I always have a camera with me. Whether that is my iPhone, a P&S, or my big cameras doesn't matter. I have learned how to use them all well, I know what their pros and cons are, and I have learned to work within those parameters, to help me create and reproduce my vision.

I feel like I have entered a "Zen" like state where I have really stopped obsessing about the latest gear, a lens that I don't own, or some other miscellaneous item that "If I only had" would make my images amazing. I have really been focusing on working with only 1 lens, forcing myself to get creative, limiting my choices, and really enjoying taking pictures. Expect many more posts on this coming up. And stop saying "if only". Start saying "I got this"

Some days are harder than others. More distractions, disruptions, disasters. There's never enough time. Too many people requiring too many things from you. Occasionally the feeling of burrowing inside rears it's head. Cutting ties, shedding responsibilities, taking more "ME" time.

I've been there for awhile. The hectic schedule is insane. Having to leave the house while my wife takes our child to urgent care, or has to call a plumber/ac guy/garage door repair guy kills me. That's my job. But I can't do that job, because I have all of these other jobs. My wife is a saint, and a very strong woman, and also very tired.

So I ponder possibilities, and think about giving up some things. Quitting. And then I go to an ATM in a dirty mini mall at 6 am. And at that moment, I am in the most beatiful place in the world, and I realize that I am exactly where I am supposed to be...

Descanso Gardens

Hey there everyone!

I am just finishing up an exhausting but fun photographic weekend. It started off with the Faded & Blurred Descanso Gardens photo walk, then this morning I did an engagement shoot, followed up by my wedding class at Tri-Community this afternoon. Does anyone want to do some editing for me? :-)




As you can see from the pictures, we had a great turnout at Descanso, and the weather was fantastic. A good time was had by all, and we finished it up with pizza and beer at Georgees in La Canada. You can see many of the images shot at the Faded & Blurred Events group on Flickr. It may be the last time we in California will see the sun until February. I shot most of the images here with my 5DMKII and the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, a fantastic combination. I also used my new Canon S90 for the shot of the yellow flower. I love this new point and shoot camera.

The Canon S90 has a 10mp sensor (the same chip in the G11), it's image stabilized, has a 3x lens which is f/2.0 at the wide end, and will shoot up to ISO 3200 (it is very usable at ISO 800). It also has a decent macro function that you can see in the yellow flower image. And the biggest selling point for me was it's pocketability.

Monday school is closed in observance of Martin Luther King

Wednesday night: We will discuss packages and pricing strategies

Thursday night: We will have our first engagement shoot. Weather permitting, we will be shooting in downtown Covina. We will meet at school first.

On Sunday, we will also have a model, and again we will be meeting at the school, so go there first. See you all soon!
