Coming up this week

Hi everyone!

I realize this is a few days late, but as often happens around here, it's been CRAZY busy. For those of you that missed it, we had a fantastic shoot in my Sunday class with our model J. Rose as our bride, and she just rocked. We learned how to saturate skies while shooting almost directly into the sun, and we did it with speed lights!

The rest of the images in this post were shot on location at Lower Arroyo Park in Pasadena, the location for Sundays shoot. I love this location, and have used it many times for many things. We will meet there, please do not go to Tri Community. This shoot is only open to students, expect it to be crowded. If you have mentioned bringing a model, please send me a confirmation email. This shoot should be fun!

Coming up for the rest of my classes:

Wednesday night we will be talking about pricing and packages for weddings. We didn't cover this last week, as it was storming and we had a small class.

On Thursday night we will be shooting, we will have at least 1 couple.

Obviously on Sunday we will be shooting. I have included a Google map to the location below.

Descanso Gardens

Hey there everyone!

I am just finishing up an exhausting but fun photographic weekend. It started off with the Faded & Blurred Descanso Gardens photo walk, then this morning I did an engagement shoot, followed up by my wedding class at Tri-Community this afternoon. Does anyone want to do some editing for me? :-)

As you can see from the pictures, we had a great turnout at Descanso, and the weather was fantastic. A good time was had by all, and we finished it up with pizza and beer at Georgees in La Canada. You can see many of the images shot at the Faded & Blurred Events group on Flickr. It may be the last time we in California will see the sun until February. I shot most of the images here with my 5DMKII and the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, a fantastic combination. I also used my new Canon S90 for the shot of the yellow flower. I love this new point and shoot camera.

The Canon S90 has a 10mp sensor (the same chip in the G11), it's image stabilized, has a 3x lens which is f/2.0 at the wide end, and will shoot up to ISO 3200 (it is very usable at ISO 800). It also has a decent macro function that you can see in the yellow flower image. And the biggest selling point for me was it's pocketability.

Coming up this week in class:

Monday school is closed in observance of Martin Luther King

Wednesday night: We will discuss packages and pricing strategies

Thursday night: We will have our first engagement shoot. Weather permitting, we will be shooting in downtown Covina. We will meet at school first.

On Sunday, we will also have a model, and again we will be meeting at the school, so go there first. See you all soon!

Faded & Blurred Photowalk this Saturday

Hey everyone!

This Saturday, 1/16/10, Faded & Blurred will be having our first photo walk of the year. We will be going to Descanso Gardens in La Canada. All are welcome of course. We will be meeting outside the main entrance at 12:30.

As with all our photo walks, we will be sharing our images in our F&B flickr group, and Jeffery, Nikki and I will be choosing some images for prizes. Our prizes for this walk are as follows:

1st place, winners choice of a Black Rapid Double Strap or a Shootsac Hip Slip lap top bag.

2nd place will receive a $25 gift certificate to BorrowLenses.com

We will also be choosing 1 image to be our February desktop calendar

Admission is $8 or $6 for students, and $3 for kids 5-12. If you have children, they are more than welcome. I will have at least 1 of mine.

A map to Descanso is here.

To enter our contest, you will need to upload your images to the F&B flickr group by midnight on Saturday, 1/23/10, and tag your images with "Faded & Blurred Descanso Gardens". We will hopefully announce our winners on Sunday.

And don't forget to register for a free account on our site at http://fadedandblurred.com

Hope to see you all there!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to 2010. To celebrate the new year, focus my passion, and to promote Faded & Blurred, I started a 365 project. But instead of doing an individual 365, I started a group. Each member of the group will be posting 1 image daily for 365 days. We already have over 30 members in the group, and I am really looking forward to seeing what develops over time. Both with individual creativity, and with my own photography. It will be a nice benchmark to see where we started, and where we wind up.

If you would like more info about the group, you can find it here. To follow along or join the group, you can find it here. All you need to join is to be a Faded & Blurred member and have a flickr account. Both are free.

It's been a while...

Hey everyone!

I hope you all are having wonderful holidays. Mine has been fantastic so far. It's been a while since I've posted, needed some time to recharge, rebuild and re-energize. Now that's not to say that I've been idle, far from it. Here is just 1 example of that, the new 2.0 version of Faded & Blurred. We upgraded everything, please come by and check it out. We took what we liked from places like Facebook, Model Mayhem, DP Review, Supershoots, AllTop, etc and rolled it all up into 1 place, and we are hoping it will become a daily destination for you on the web. Register for free, and you'll get to upload images to your portfolio, participate in the forums, comment on the blogs, and add/interact with friends.

Also getting ready for next semester at Tri-Community. Going to be a busy 1 for me, 4 days including a Sunday class. This will most likely be a 1 time only Sunday class for me, as weekends tend to be really tough with so many other obligations, so join us while you can.

If you got a shiny new toy for Christmas that you really want to try out, consider joining Faded & Blurred as we go check out the floats in Pasadena on 1/2/2010. Details are here: Showcase of Floats

I got 1 of these for Christmas: The Diana I loaded it up with film yesterday and am having a blast getting back to the basics. Very basic. Very, very basic. :-). I've been shooting B&W, Ilford HP5, but may load up some color film for the float walk. Now if only I can find the LCD...

We also have several of our walks set up for next year, those details can all be found on F&B too.

And last but not least, we are also hosting a 365 Project on flickr. What is a 365 project you ask? Just take 1 image a day and upload it to the group. Lot's more info about that here: F&B Project 365

Hope to see you all soon, either on a walk, or in school. 2010 is going to be a great year!

Last week of school!

Hey everyone!

This is the last week of school before winter break. So here is what is going on:

Monday night we will be doing our Star Wars shoot, and this time we are shooting the Jedi, bring your gear, and be ready for some slow shutter speeds. And we may have a few surprises... (Don't click here)

Wednesday night and Thursday night we will have review, questions, and Pot Luck, so please bring a dish.

I'm off to go ice skating wit my daughter in Pershing Square today. I fell in love with it on our Faded & Blurred downtown LA photo walk, and my daughter loves trains, so off we go!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and I will see you next week...
