Faded & Blurred Hollywood photo walk

Hey everyone!

A quick note to remind everyone that the Faded & Blurred crew are taking to the streets again! This time, we are doing the mythical, magical, (and in reality dirty and dingy) Hollywood Blvd! We will be there on March 20th, at 1pm. We are doing something fun this time out, our contest will only be available to those of you that choose to purchase a disposable film camera, but you have to order it by 3/5/10. All those details are here: F&B Hollywood

I am soooo looking forward to this walk, it's going to be a great one!!!

If you want to reserve your camera, they are $15. At the end of the walk, you need to return them to us. We will get them developed, and you will get back your negatives along with prints and a CD. All the info, and the ability to get your camera, are here: F&B Hollywood

Maria Carmel will be at Tri tonight!

Hey everyone!

I couldn't get a couple for tonight, but Maria Carmel will be at Tri tonight speaking in Alberts class, so he has invited us to sit in on that. Maria is the winner of VH1's the shot, and is living the dream as a professional photographer. She started her photography career as David LaChapelles assistant, and has some great stories to tell. As usual, we will meet in studio B, see you there!

Faded & Blurred 365 - 2010 day 48

As you can see from this image, I was heading the wrong way but still managed to catch this. It was hard to keep heading this direction.

I also started reading David DuChemin's fantastic ebook "Chasing the Look" available here: http://www.craftandvision.com/books/chasing-the-look.html for the low, low price of $5. You can't go wrong with any of his books. His other titles are available on Amazon :

I started reading his ebook at lunchtime, and now I am really itching to go shoot. I will get that chance on Saturday at the Getty Center with my Faded & Blurred crew. You coming? http://fadedandblurred.com/upcoming-events/details/1-the-getty-center-photo-walk

Faded & Blurred 365 2010 day 47

I was on my daughters desk chair, trying to reach something on her bookcase, when a leg on her chair broke. My leg scraped the side of her desk, and my face bounced off her desk.

Round 1 went to the chair, but I'll be back...

Found my "Somebody"

Found my "Somebody", originally uploaded by fwisneski.

I would like to take this moment to thank my wife Laurie. I found my "Somebody" many years ago. I am thankful for that every day, and I am glad I no longer roam around searching...

Happy Valentines Day Laurie, and thank you for being somebody to share my innermost thoughts, and all my intimate details, for being someone who stands by my side, and gives me support.

For being someone who will hear me out, but won't easily be converted to my way of thinking. In fact we often disagree, but at the end of it all, you understand me.

I know things like this make us sick, but in a place like this we'll get away with it...

I love you

Thank you

Power poles

Processed with Aperture 3

IMG_8434 - Version 2, originally uploaded by fwisneski.

Hi Everyone!

The image above was processed with Aperture 3. Apple released it this week, and I am playing with the 30 day free trial. It is available for $199. Jeffery and I are having wildly different experiences with it, and I am not ready to give a thumbs up or thumbs down on it yet. The 1 intriguing factor for me with this program is the ability to do slideshows. As a recent Apple convert, I do miss ProShow Producer, but perhaps this program can finally replace that.

Also, in a concerted effort to make the website and blog more cohesive, I made some design changes. Let me know what you think.

Here is a quick update on what to expect this week in class:

Sunday: We will be at Tri. We are going to cover Lightroom. Please don't forget to bring images!

Monday: No school! We are closed for President's day

Wednesday: We will discuss last week's church shoot. Again, bring images!

Thursday: We have models, come prepared to shoot, and BRING IMAGES!!!

See you this week!

We shot a real renewal of the vows in my class on Wednesday night. Then we went to In-N-Out for the reception!

Thanks to Stephanie and Alejandro for allowing us to shoot this, and to Herman for officiating.

Welcome to Lightroom!

Hey everyone!

In Monday nights class, we spent a lot of time covering Lightroom. There are a lot of resources on the web for tutorials and presets, but you can start here: Preset Heaven

Another great resource is Lightroom Killer Tips

And of corse you can always Google "Free Presets"

Bridal shoot

Wow, what a weekend. It was all wedding, all the time, and surprisingly, there was very little rain to interfere.

Saturday was spent shooting a wedding, and I followed up by taking the class to Pasadena City Hall for a bridal shoot, with 3 brides. I was so geared up for rain this weekend, I must say that I'm disappointed I didn't get to shoot any brides in the rain.

I think the class was fantastic today, plenty to shoot, at a favorite location of mine, and as it was Superbowl Sunday, we had the place to ourselves. Even with all 60 of us. What a treat!

As I had shot a wedding the day before, I wanted to try some different things out for myself today, so 2 of my lesser used lenses were all that I brought. I used the 17-40 mm f4L, and the 135 f2. Both were a blast to use, all though with so many people around, the 135 was tough to avoid getting extra people in the shot from so far back.

Coming up this week in class:

Monday night we will cover Lightroom. I will bring in some shots from the Pasadena City Hall shoot, to show some editing and work flow.

Wednesday night we will have a mock wedding ceremony. Or at least that is how it started out. In Reality it will be a live, honest to goodness vow renewal ceremony, but with a twist. Stephanies husband doesn't know that. ;-) And the service will be performed by our very own Herman! Bring your cameras and speedlights, because we are heading to the church. The address is 4303 Maupin Ave, Baldwin Park. Only for Tri-Students! Map below, and parking is rough, so please carpool.

Thursday night we have models.

Sunday we will cover Lightroom and Photoshop for post process basics

Frank and Debbie

I had the pleasure of shooting Frank & Debbie's wedding yesterday. I will add more images to this set as I finish them up, but here is just a little sample. I need to recharge the batteries, format the cards, and back up the images so I can go teach class today. Don't forget, we are shooting rain or shine today, 3pm, at the Pasadena City Hall.

Faded & Blurred 2010 34
This is my lunch.

This is so much more than my lunch

I have had this book on my Amazon Wish List for a year. I finally bought it and recieved it this week.

I have been running down a path for a while now. In the last 6 months, it has really picked up steam. I have also been battling myself. This is nothing new. But the questions are coming faster than ever. "Is this good?" "Are you good enough?" "What are you doing?" "Are you crazy?" "When will you give up? You know you always do..."

I'm tired, I'm exhausted, I'm spent. I have a lot of obligations. I have very little time. But I can't stop running. Climbing. Breathing. Sometimes I just want to rest. Stuff is falling through the cracks. Old relationships are changing. New ones are emerging. I can't stop.

And I still don't know what I'm doing, or where I am going. And this little book understands all of that. And it validates everything I have been doing, and it tells me it's all okay.

This was so much more than lunch...
